I figured asking for pros an cons BEFORE I actually do this. its a 50 f-1, gas tank has been relocated in rear. Im thinking of mounting on the brace channel behind the tank. Pretty good access, yes along way and if I get rear ended bye bye battery. Have not run exhuast. and running a flathead with an AOD.
on my 49 the drop down box is on the frame on the right side just behind the cab. I added battery jumper studs under the right running board for charging
Kevin,
I did weld in a plate to support the drop down battery box. Don't be confused where the box is located relative to the original stock crossmember. The original stock crossmember has been moved back more than a foot but retained to retain rigidity in the frame but allow the room for the 700R4 AOD.
Thanks Bill, I would have used that for reference. I have the cab in prep for paint and was not planning on pulling it off for paint as its in good + shape. Decisions...............
There is also plenty of room outside the frame rail under the cab... with a trans cooler inside the frame
but I've found out that it's not a convenient place if you need to remove battery from a low truck... here's mine
