This is on my 97 obs.. The other morning my check engine light was coming on from time to time. The truck was running fine. It eventually went out and stayed out.
On my return trip home it never came on at all.
I see this can be related to the idle validation switch on the fuel pedal assembly.
My question is if this is a sign of it going bad. I see a number of complaints of no power when this switch fails. But haven’t seen any mention of it causing a check engine light and no drive ability issues.
Should I start looking for a new pedal? I’m told the switches aren’t available. I’m about 280 k miles if that matters.
Those pedals are known to fail, and when it does, the engine will only idle. At that point you could do some circuit testing to verify it's the pedal, and not wiring. Probably wouldn't be a bad idea to prepare to replace it.

Yes, testing the circuit would be nice. But at this point it was just an occasional light on.
I removed the wiring connectors and sprayed contact cleaner on everything hoping to get lucky. Time will tell.
Is it true that the replacement switches aren’t available anywhere? I haven’t looked much yet. But I see people saying $300-500 for the complete assembly. Seems kinda crazy.
I wonder if anyone has taken a switch to a good electronics person for possible repair? I hate expensive disposable parts for something that should be a simple repair like a new switch.
