Next time it konks out hot, try pouring cold water on the ignition box on the fender. Mine started doing that, but thanks to a post here, I was ready just by chance, poured my frozen coke on it, fired right up. When testing in the NAPA store, it's cold compared next to that engine. Mine wiorked cold, but it was a hot afternoon when it konked out.
We have a winner!
Just stop running like the key was turned off is a sign the box on the fender is going bad and it shows up when hot.
Yep it was tested cold so it was good.
Just replace it with a top of the line NAPA one.
You have to ask for it as all stores will lookup and give you the cheap one.
You get what you pay for.

The fuel could be boiling in the carb when it gets so hot and it could cause the fuel to seep into the motor and flood it out, next time it does it hold the pedal to the floor and if and when it starts, let off the gas. (Obviously)
When this happens, if the engine isn't flooding, this can be vapor lock. That is when the gasoline boils and becomes a gas. At that point, your fuel pump is compressing the gas instead of pumping liquid. (Like air in a brake line). Then the engine lacks fuel and stops until the gas lines cool down.
I have also seen it flood the engine too if the float height is a little high, when the fuel gets so hot that it starts to boil, it expands and it starts to leak out of certain places that are in the carb, and then it floods.

I checked the float hight, and it was below a quarter like the post you referred to me said.
I would try what the others have been saying with the ignition box on the fender and just replace it. They aren’t too expensive and it’s cheap insurance. Definitely cheaper than a tow home if and when it goes out.
Vapor lock is more like running out of gas, it spits & sputters to a stop.
A bad IGN box that over heats and shuts done is just like the key was turned off when driving, it just stops running.
Now some times when the box goes bad and you are cranking to start it and you let off the key and it "pops" like it wants to start it is because when you let off the key you stop power to the coil and this is when spark happens.
A bad box will not not cut power to the coil when cranking and why it will not start / run even if you spray starting fluid or gas down carb.
If the dist. pick up coil is bad it will not send a signal to the box and you could also get the same thing happening, a pop when the key is turned off.
But most of the time it is the box that goes bad that shows up like this.
