not sure where the dipstick adapter is located.. is that the area the dipstick goes into the pan on the passenger side area?? any pictures of this area.
Yes. It is where the dipstick goes into the pan. It is a common potential leak point. It is on the passenger's side of the oil pan tucked "behind" the starter (picture is with the starter removed):
nice.. thanks.. I did not notice any oil from the dip stick to pan area when I was looking before.. saw more oil on area below the valve cover gasket on rear of passenger head onto the exhaust manifold.. but not thinking it would leak that much. I do know the hoses at the engine for the bypass filter have some drips on them but will have to get under with motor running to see how much. Would not think that much could leak that fricken much... .
Don't underestimate a valve cover leak. There is razor-thin clearance between the injector solenoid and valve cover. It doesn't take much of an issue with the gasket (old, torn, not installed properly. etc.) to have an issue.
Since the engine is tipped back slightly the oil slinging around in there will exit through the back gasket area just as easily as it will drain back down to the sump. I would check that area with a flashlight with the truck running and up to temp just to make sure.
My truck had never used a tablespoon of oil between changes, then I take a 400 mile trip towing and used well over a quart. I am 95% sure that it was a clogged air filter. After it was changed, all is back to normal. I also noticed during that time that the truck did not perform as well. Maybe the restriction was causing oil to be drawn out the ccv system.
I was under the truck the other day and i looked hard at a lot of places mentions... oil cooler brackets,, clean,, oil dipstick into pan area,, clean,, the gasket on valve cover seem to be the most likely?? place.. I will get a chance to find out next week when we get home and have time to remove the turbo to install new wheel and oi rings, and will replace the valve cover gasket on that side and check the other side as well since i will have the top stuff off ..
air filter is clean,, S&B cotton that was cleaned last month before our trip to maine.. but will check it as well.. today was a long hard day from bar harbor area to sturbridge MA, area on the way to accord NY..
I hope that will take care of the issue.. it been a real PITA.. seem to be fine when running around town but get worse when towing.. ??
Isn’t there a high pressure oil plug in the back of the head near the firewall? I think this may be what FTN was referring to.
It sounds like it’s related to high pressure oil demand based on your description.
Have you checked the fuel line of passenger head at the clamp? I’ve read where the diesel can look a lot like oil when it leaks. Sorry if this has already been gone over, I don’t remember the entire troubleshooting process you’ve been through and am too lazy to read it all again.
not sure but it hard as hell to see with all the piping attached.. I am going to keep pouring oil it and get it home on fri next week so i can tear the top off and find the fricken leak or seep or whatever it is.. just in looking under truck the exhaust pipe which is on passenger side and frame rail on passenger side get more blow by than driver side. wont have to worry about rust as the whole passenger side from starter to hitch is got oil on it..

There is. There's a HPO rail plug on the back of each side and both suck to get to. The driver's side has pretty much no clearance to the firewall and the passenger's side plug is near the downpipe.
They are not small and it's a 1/2" square ratchet to get them out:
