I own a 1999 F-150 super cab,4x4,5.4,approx. 31,250 miles. Over the last several weeks I've been smelling oil every time I get out of it, even when I only travel a couple of miles. I've had the engine steamed cleaned and we can't find any signs of a leak, there's nothing under the vehicle when I move it and the oil level is fine. However there is still a very strong odor of oil when ever I drive it. Any ideas what might be going on?
There is a leak some where. Probably a valve cover. The oil is leaking on to the exhaust manifold and burning off. That's probably why no oil is seen on the ground.
A friend had the same problem with his 99 Exp w/5.4 at around 35K miles. It turned out to be leaks between the block and heads. The deck of the block had a course finish and the headgasket would not seal. The fix was a new long block at Ford's cost. He advises - twist every arm you can until they fix it.
i have a 99 f-150 that has an oil leak since 18,000 miles. ford has replaced the head gaskets twice and it still leaks. right now it has 29,500 miles on it and the warrenty is up pretty soon and they still won't replace the motor. does any body know if this is pretty common with this motor or what..

Hello Everyone,
I have a 99 F-150 5.4 oil leak. I had the head gasket replaced at 29000 and now I'm bringing it back for the same thing @ 37000. I should still be cover under the 12,000 or 12 month service warranty. Has anyone heard of a recall on this? I want some ammo when I drop it off at the dealer for repair. Thanks for your insight.
