Oil Temps.

I have a 04 F250 ccsb 4x4 6.0 with a 7.3 fan clutch. I am pretty sure I have a bad one since I don't ever hear it come on. Is there a way I can manually hook up a switch with the 7.3 fan clutch?

What is your concern with regard to oil temps? I assume you have modified your truck to run a BulletProofDiesel (or equivalent) air cooled oil cooler?

A 7.3L fan clutch is not electrically controlled. It does what it does.

I still have factory oil cooler. I changed the oil cooler bypass valve and the oil Temps went down about 10°. Usually the ECT runs about 188-192°. The EOT will run any where from 219°- 230°, depending on style of driving. But when I take it easy or stop at a light, EOT will start going down after a couple minutes.

And I know the 7.3 fan clutch isn't electrically controlled. I don't think mine works. I haven't ever heard the fan noise. I was just wondering if there was a way to wire in a switch until I had a chance to go in and change it.

If ECT runs 188-192, then I don't think high oil temperatures are related to the fan (seeings how you have the OEM oil cooler).

7.3 clutch is viscous - engages more & more as airflow through the stack gets hotter. So if your ECT is running 188-192, fan is probably not fully engaging. Your oil temp issue isn't related to the fan. Might try backflushing the oil cooler?

if you know the 7.3 fan clutch isn’t electrically controlled, then how on earth do you expect to put a switch in it??

that seems a little hot on the oil unless your towing. Today in 100f ambient I saw 194-196 ECT and around 198-200f

Flush the system before you put in the new cooler -- that way the junk is already out and does not plug the new cooler

May also want to try a back flush to buy a little more time on the old cooler -- but flush the system first
