The young lady in the article is in an unfortunate position, but the Focus Electric is about as close to the Lightning as a 1994 Powerstroke is to a 6.7L truck. They’re apples and oranges, which is made worse by the fact that the Focus Electric was a half-hearted effort at a compliance car. That doesn’t help the owner with a major bill, but I’ve never heard anyone in the EV community recommend buying a Focus Electric, now or years ago. It was a horrible choice in 2014 when it was new, and even worse now.
Compliance cars are still around, but the majority of them are a lot better. The Mazda CX-30 EV is a repeat of the same theme…an awful vehicle that nobody in their right mind would own. Mazda didn’t bother putting in even a halfhearted effort with the design, and it’s uncompetitive at any price point. This is not the car you’d want to be responsible for 8 years from now.

I did create a post though as it provides a snapshot of how far things have come in less than a decade. Take the 2012 Nissan Leaf with a range of 40 miles our friends recently adopted for example. Both the Focus and Leaf of yesteryear are junk compared to a modern day EV.
Despite the vast differences, I thought the article was worth a quick read and others may have the same opinion, so I posted it here and went on with my day.
I can't tell you how many warnings I heard about the cost of a battery failure!
January 2018 and 353,000 miles later, the tranny began to slip.
Battery was fine, Hybrid system was fine.
Did you seen any degradation or charge capacity in the battery system? Perhaps there was not a measurable value viewable in the information center by the customer at the time.
