Well, after almost 4 years and 3 months and over 134K miles, today, my OEM battery took a dump.
I wanted to replace it with a Northstar or an Odyssey but, I would’ve had to order it via an online vendor and it would have taken a few days to get here so that was not an option because I need my truck tomorrow.
With that being said, I purchased a DieHard Platinum from Advance Auto Parts so I’m back in business and it comes with a 3 year replacement warranty so I’m happy.
I’ve never owned a DieHard so I hope it holds up,
I also found out a bit of info that others might find interesting.
Odyssey and it’s parent company purchased Northstar a few months ago.
I've always had good luck with DieHard batteries. Make sure you reset your Battery Life Monitor.
Glad to hear that about DieHard batteries.
I was wondering about said monitor and the BCM because I don’t have or use FORScan.
I wonder if 2016 5.0 equipped F150‘s have said BLM because I’ve never received a message from FordPass even when my vehicle sat for almost two months without starting it.
Also, I was was looking in my owners manual about battery replacement and it didn’t mention either of those things.
However, I remember reading awhile back that if an owner replaces his or her own battery, they should let the vehicle sit for at least eight hours which is what I did overnight plus some.
I guess I didn’t have the battery disconnected for too long yesterday because after I replaced it, the only thing that changed on my center stack was the clock which was off only by an hour.
Hopefully when I drive it around 3 PM today and drive for almost 100 miles, all will be fine.
As hard as it is to believe, I got the best price at a Quick Lane at the local Ford dealer.
They sell Motorcraft as a carryout.
I considered going to a local Ford dealer for another Motorcraft battery but when I ran into this problem yesterday, it was almost 7PM and they were closed.
After the 20% online coupon from Advance Auto Parts plus my core, I paid a little over $170.00 dollars for the Diehard.
We have had a number of DieHard batteries over the years in different vehicles. Don't know that we've had any specific issues other than old age, so that's a good thing. We just passed the 5-year mark on the battery in our 2015. Still going strong, but we don't live in snow country either. We do drive to snow country a couple times per year.
Hooking your battery up to an external charger a few times a year overnight is good for it's health. if you live in the frozen part of the world, it's more important, but even elsewhere. The BMS will adjust over a day or two, or there's a procedure to reset it.
I get mixed results on Google if you have a BLM, seems they have been on Fords sinse 2011, but nothing specific about F150s. I must have seen the same post, and stuck in my head because I'm sure I do. I guess I'd start by looking in the manual.

I had the battery on my truck disconnected for a couple of hours.
Same thing, clock was off by an hour.
Also, the TPMS sensors had no reading.
A quick run around the block and all went back to normal.
Every Diehard I have ever owned has been a good battery,

Glad to hear that you’re OEM battery is still going strong after 5 years.
