86 ford F600

I am looking at a F600 cab and flat bed. The guy selling the truck said it will only do 50 mph. It has a 5 speed manual and a 8.2 diesel motor in it. I asked him if it had a 2 speed rear end in it and he said he didnt think so. So my question is should the truck have a 2 speed rear end and does this seem right for the top speed to only be 50 mhp.

Welcome to FTE!

An '86 F600 could be had with a single or a two speed. Axle ratios also varied.

If it's geared short, sure, 50 MPH would be it. That engine should be able to bring it up into the 65-70 area easily, IF it's geared for that.

There is a certification label that has the VIN, GVWR, GVAR, and multiple codes on it on the door jamb on those trucks. If you post a picture of it, we can see what it was equipped with.

Gear and transmission changes can be expensive so walk away if you it's not what you want.

My 83 F800 8.2 with 5 and 2 is pretty well done for at 65 mph.
