The speedo adapter on my F600 is not 'adapting' when I shift the rear axle. I have the dials out of the dash, fixing some wiring and I looked at the speedo adapter. It has a single wire post/terminal to receive the signal from the axle shifter, but no negative or ground terminal. Should this be grounded to something in order for it to work? At first, I figured the speedo cable must provide the grounding, but it is sheathed in rubber/plastic. Next, I looked at the back of the speedometer, but it is insulated from its metal frame. The adapter itself is riveted and there is no obvious place to hook a ground wire. It just hangs off of the back of the speedo. Any thoughts on this? Thanks
A couple of things here. IF your rear shifter is vacuum operated but has an electric shift "button" on the stick the signal for the speedo adapter is coming from THAT switch. If the rear is shifting okay but your not changing the speedo first check the wire TO the adapter. In one position, I forget which, the wire will have 12vdc at the adapter terminal and none in the other stick shifter buttons position. IF you reared is electric shifted the test at the wire will be the same BUT if you have voltage as I described prior and no adapter then the adapter is bad. If you do NOT have voltage in either position the power for the adapter is at a junction plug in the loom that has been know to corrode and or have the signal wire break clean off, it's not a very large gauge wire. Hope this helps ya, good luck, Al
P.S. the flex cable DOES provide grounding, almost forgot to add that.
