Hi, Untrained Shadetree here. I am going after oil leaks from the front of 74 F250 with the 360FE. I have the sleeve for the front seal, front seal, timing chain cover gasket, and pan gasket. Any expert trick I need to know or is it just put it all together with the right gasket sealer (I typically use Permatex High Tack). Thanks!
I haven't been using it too long but know a guy who has been using it for years and he swears by Permatex "The Right Stuff" gasket maker in place of standard paper, rubber or cork gaskets for most applications. If you do not want to do it twice or deal with leaks, use this Stuff.... but when it comes time to remove what you used it on it can be a bit of a challenge to separate; though applying a fair amount of heat to it will usually help break it free. Same process is effective to release Loctite thread locker. They make 1 minute fast cure and 90 minute. Not cheap but you know you will only do it once. I am pretty **** when it comes to sealing surface prep but there are times when I thought I had everything right and nuiassane leaks still developed. It sucks taking things back apart. Especially gettng to the timing cover.
If you decide to use traditional gaskets make sure all surfaces are clean and straight especially the oil pan flange as they get deformed from over torquing the bolts. Use a thin film of RTV spread with finger on both sides of gasket
