Crazy to advocate for people driving 20 over the speed limit as somehow less dangerous than someone going 25 under. Keep your eyes on the road and there won't be any problems.
I guess that went right over your head. I inferred that driving 20 mph under the speed is just as dangerous as driving 20mph over the limit.
There are sections of freeway and highway up here in wisconsin and down by chicago on the wisconsin side (probably more, i dont sprawl out much from wisconsin) that you would get pulled over going 55mph as they have posted minimum speeds. The most interesting one I saw was 75mph speed limit
60mph Minimum
Im not arguing or taking a stand, just pointing out that youd have to go a bit faster to avoid a ticket
Sister, I stay out of those places. I can do 60 though, if I'm in a hurry.
Absolutely not. Up in the distance or even behind me I can see the car in the right lane back up traffic while driving 15-20 mph under the speed limit because the left lane is also full of cars.
I figured there was probably a study of different speeds for fuel efficiency and that the government didn’t just arbitrarily choose 55mph but you never know.
Good for you.
Actually there is. Basically a vehicle is a poor shape to cut through air....any speed over 60 mph has to burn so much fuel to overcome the drag created, fuel consumption increases greatly.
i can stand up in public and call people out for acting like jerks.
It’s high time we did that.
I’m on the road all the time and people get killed every day because some ****** thought his/her program was more important than everyone else’s.
That’s these guys right here.
if you can’t afford gas, don’t drive.
But you might want to consider what a piece of garbage you really are.
The reason you don’t have a right to drive is because it’s a shared responsibility.
Act like it.
I guess that went right over your head. I inferred that driving 20 mph under the speed is just as dangerous as driving 20mph over the limit.
How often do you think people wreck going 20 over, vs how often someone gets rear ended going 20 under? How often do you read the headline: "Driving slow was a major factor, that lead up to the collision"?
Why do most interstates post 45mph min speed limits, w/ 70mph max limits, if it's dangerous to go 20 under? I've been from coast to coast of Indian country more than once and nowhere did I find where driving (as slow as) 55mph would be deemed unsafe.
When I travel in my car, I just go the limit (or push it a touch, to where I feel I wouldn't be bothered getting pulled over for just 3-4 over. When you travel for weeks or months on end, every mph adds up.) But in no way can driving too slow be equally as dangerous as driving too fast. That's not possible. People can see for a loooooong ways off, they're going much faster than you are and just get over. If not, that's due to distracted driving, not speed related. Those folks need to get off their dumb phones.
I don’t see posted minimum speed limits but in some places there are signs to use flashers under __mph to warn other drivers that you are going very slow.
I go < 10mph over the posted speed on some of the highways and I’m still being passed by the majority of people. Around here there is no seeing for a looooong ways off. A wave of cars are going 80+ mph in the 70 mph zone then come around the curve to find some jack wagon going 55mph to get 18mpg instead of 16mpg so the cars in the right lane have slow down quickly to avoid running into the back of that vehicle. Traffic backs up as a result until they can get around.
How often do you think people wreck going 20 over, vs how often someone gets rear ended going 20 under?
Ask any road side construction worker or State Patrol officer. We get rush hour and it happens a couple times a day, sometimes all day. It is amazing how many people rear end someone because they are going faster than the person who is in front. I live on a steep hill. When I am going down hill and need to turn left, I ALWAYS look in the mirror when I use my turn signal. Lots of people don't slow down. I do know when there is that time I don't think they will stop, I will just keep going straight.
It happens a lot. If everyone is going the same speed, wrecks would be substantially less.
When it comes to speed limits, the City of Seattle, the arterial streets are 25mph, non arterial streets are 20mph. That is over 2,400 miles of driving 20mph. It's all to prevent people dying. Too bad they can't fix the open drug use.
Have 1994 Ford F-150 with 33” tires and 3:55 gear ratio. Thinking about installing lower gears maybe 3:73 or 4:10 gears. What would you recommend. Thx
I would drive it that way and did for years when I went from P235/75R15 to 35” tires but the Bronco (C6) did not have overdrive.

Agree. No point in bothering with 3.73 for the effort.

4.10 would be the way to go if you want more performance or better towing, but if you're just driving it around it's probably not really necessary.
If this was a 5.0 truck or it had 3.08 gears my advive would be yes definitely go to 4.10s.
Sorry the thread got derailed. It would be nice if you get an answer to these questions.
