Alright fellas, I need some help trying to figure out this gear ratio thing. I got a 03 cc 4x4 7.3 with stock 3.73 gears.
Ive been hearing from a few people that putting 4.10 gears on my truck would make it faster, but decrease fuel mileage. Is this correct? What would be the disadvantages and advantages to changing the gear ratios?
What size tires are you running? the 4.10 gear set is stronger out of the hole, but the 3.73's will go faster. Now if you throw in some larger tires, oh, lets just say some 35's with a 4.10 gearset then because of the tire diameter your really only running about a 3.73 ratio. if you put 35's and a 3.73 together its about a 3.55 ratio. does that muddy the water enough for you?
