Mirror upgrade
That would be real ugly in the rain at night, especially with a trailer behind me.
One problem with having a commercial vehicle is that EVERY light you have installed HAS to work, so no disconnecting a light if it's annoying.
I'm on the fence between the 2017 or 2008 style. Do both mirrors have rear facing blinker (or indicator) that causes issues with vision at night. If it's an indicator under the mirror surface, can it be disconnected?
If it's below the surface and the officer cannot see a separate light fixture to check it would be OK to disconnect... if that's possible.
I thought about ordering one set of each and try them on my F450 project and use the one I like least on my daily driver. Problem with that is I have 2 sets of perfectly fine XL towing mirrors.
I figure they’re easy enough to change if they end up being crappy.

The blinkers on my mirrors are smoked and more side and front facing, but I suppose a bit may be rearward facing. As I mentioned earlier, I didn't wire them up, so no bother to me. The blinker does not need to be disconnected if the mirror has one as they were not wired like that from the factory. The owner must install a new circuit from the existing turn signal circuits to the mirrors if the integrated turn signal is going to be utilized.
I like the 2008 mirrors a lot better than the 2000 mirrors, but I like the look (aesthetically) and the larger convex mirror of the 2017 mirrors. Similar to you Joel, I adjust my mirror so that the top of the flat mirror is just above the horizon line by an inch or two when on flat ground. This is the angle I have found to be most useful for my tastes and towing the 5th wheel.

I'll ask Jason more specific questions about that...
2002 Ford F350 Super Duty Truck with Marker Light Driver & Passenger Side (Upgrade Power-Folding) Textured Black Towing 2 Piece Mirror Set Trail Ridge TR00020.
Glad to confirm that the Ford schematics do indeed list the correct colors. And no, I twisted the wires together first until I tested it rather than to waste a butt splice as I did not order the adapter harness.
The ones I bought were the Akkon mirrors for 99 - 07 Superdutys. Below is the Amazon link.
Pardon the dirty glass and the viewing angle maybe not being perfect as a passenger has to take the picture seeing how it would be just so wrong for me to do it while driving...
My adjustment switch was not working so I robbed the one from my other truck to get it adjusted. Once they are adjusted to my liking, I'll put the switch back into the other truck.
Overall I am extremely pleased with the view, especially the lower portion which would be my main focus as it see's everything including the rear tires. Makes backing into parking spots a snap!
I will run some temporary wiring to test the lights and verify if they will bother me at night before installing a set on my hotshot truck. As I've said before, EVERY installed light HAS to work on a commercial vehicle. I may just install a relay to activate the operation of the lights for "inspection" mode.
I will also add a lighted switch for the mirror heat. A timer would be nice, but I would rarely need the heat so I'll stick to... yeah, you guessed it CHEAP lol!
One other thing I noticed is that these mirrors stick out further than the stock towing mirrors for the 99 trucks - yet another reason to upgrade!
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
You would have to find the matching connector or just use some small spade tabs to connect it to the truck.

95, 96 and two 99's.
With insurance and plates on all of them and I drove a service van home from work every day.
My F450 project truck however, has a manual transfer case so the switch location is available but right under that is the 5 upfitter switches I installed.
I could probably fit the switch by itself next to the ESOF switch though...
I would say there is a good 30% increase in field of view from the lower mirror. I really like the 2008 over the OEM, but the 2017 is really nice in the function category.
These have been moved up my list of "things to buy". Thanks for sharing the images with us Joel.

I've only taken a quick trip down the road a few miles and for country roads, the top mirrors are not even needed. I expect them to become an asset when there's a wide trailer behind you.
My rough measurements indicate that the outside edges stick out around 2 inches further than the OEM towing mirrors which will give much more visibility behind wide trailers.
By the way, these images are with the mirrors close in, not extended. If I move them to my hotshot truck, I'll get images of towing my 30' X 8.5' GN trailer - hopefully with a load to show their effectiveness where they are needed the most.
