Which one do you think costs less to maintain? I assume the IDI...

88 IDI: injectors and injector pump every 150,000 to 175,000 miles. so 3 sets. 2 sets of glow plugs. a facet duralift pump after the mechanical pump died. 3 sets of brakes. 6 or 7 sets of tires. 1 alternator. 2 starters. one set battery cables. 1 radiator. 1 set of springs, front and rear.

2002 powerstroke: 2 alternators (one was set on fire by spring shop) 1 starter. 1 set of battery cables. 2 sets of brakes. 1 driveshaft.(the kid took it offroad, hit something, and bent the rear shaft) 3 sets tires. 1 set front springs.
neither engine has been apart.
so all in all, with the exception of injectors and pumps, maintenance is about the same for both seeing as the 88 is 14 years older than the 02, and has 300,000 more miles on it.

Are you the only owner the IDI has ever had?

The 460 is good if you can get it with the 5 speed.

However, the 460 requires a better exhaust than the stock and a better intake than stock to perform at any level of "not crap."
