Wink WHO are We? Post your pic here-

I think it is fun to read about the exploits/ experiences of people in the websites I frequent.

Some people have strong opinions and or they are on here frequently- it is fun to imagine what they look like.

But what do they look like?

LETS compare. Here's me:

FIRST of all, I picked the best pic of me, taken last spring. Second, it was taken by my MOTHER. I was cleaning the bathrooms in my house in Orlando, and she and her sister discovered one of my bottles of wine. The two miscreants, who emptied said bottle of Italian red, found my digital camera. I turned around and FLASH....there was a picture. And some giggles~

I was kind of pissed until I saw the picture. I'm like "damn- that's pretty kewl!" and off it went to anyone that asked.

Uhmm...or...urk...

Sorry, but I guess there is no way of easily posting a pic here!

This site is served by a thing known as VBulletin.

For my Porsche, I frequent a website known as Rennlist.com-

A few weeks ago I posted a similar thread, wondering what the people I chatted with looked like. On Rennlist, it is VERY EASY to post a pic- there is a button that lets you browse for pictures.....it doesn't exist here!

WELL, my Rennlist post generated 1100 posts in its first month, and nearly 50,000 hits overall. On the same format: VBulletin.

?Whats going on?

Why isn't it easy to post a picture here? On Rennlist, if someone wants to see a picture of my unusual gray market import '85 928 S2, I can simply take a pic with my digital cam, download it to my hard drive....and post it online. Takes about 10 minutes, ideally-

What gives? How do I do it here?

*Great Example*

Ripsnort,

nice looking young men there - pretty country too.

. . but respectfully; it is also a fine example of why this type of thread is "bad".

Storing those pictures cost MONEY. Transmitting those pictrues to users costs MONEY.

Do you have any idea how much it would cost to serve and store 100,000 HUGE images like Ripsnorts?
~A BUNCH~

I respectfully suggest that if this is going to happen the users SHRINK THE PICTURES FIRST. 300x300 pixels is a fairly large (over 3"x3") picture - most I have seen posted inside the forum run 480x640 or larger!

. . really, I'm in no position to fuss at anyone, and I am not trying to really, but sheeeesh, I don't think most folks realize the cost involved in this.

I'd be willing to bet Ken's bandwidth alone is setting him back several hundred dollars a month - *without* adding in the cost of the storage space to keep the photos.

. . respectfully.

CT- you are OK, but I have to tell you you look a lot like a horse's *** -hehehe -a lot of people wonder why we don't store pictures here. We don't serve up pictures that are stored in galleries here to other websites either. If you link to them all they will get is an FTE logo. You can put a pic of yourself in your gallery, just remember that it has to be with a bunch of pictures of your truck, -it can't be just you and your cat etc etc.

btw- bandwidth etc costs run many hundreds, think $1000+ a month.

We customize our version of V-Bulletin for our application also.
