So what is actually happening to the trans when there is a decel option I know DP had it in their tow tunes but seems nobody else has it in their tunes is it a bad thing for the trans? It was a nice option in the tow tunes when i had DPs tunes. Was going to ask some tuners about this option but not really sure what its actually called. Torque converter lock decel?
Like the Finnster said, the DP decel tune firms up the transmission so the compression drag of the engine is passed thru to the wheels to slow the rig. Big contributor to that engine drag is from closing the EBPV. Without EBPV it's far less effective.
Detractors will say it increases exhaust back pressure so much it can float the valves, potentially causing valve/piston contact. Which depends on condition of your valve springs.
Ya i didn't have an EBPV with the DP tunes either but it did slow the truck down pretty good with however they did the transmission programming. Be nice if they made tunes for Hydra that was one of the best tow tunes i have used so far. But other tuners beat them as far as other tunes go not saying the other tuners tow tunes suck I like the shift points guess best fix is to get a trailer with brakes.
If you don't have an EBPV, just press the OD off button on the stalk. In addition to keeping you out of OD - and downshifting if you are in OD when the button is pressed - it will apply the CC. If you are traveling above about 40mph the TC will likely be locked, too, and that's as good a decel tune as you can get without somehow blocking the exhaust. Also, and I'm sure you know this, any trailer of consequence needs brakes.
Ya i need to pull my steering column cover off and find the dreaded wire that blows my fuse when i hit the OD off button its been this way for about 3 yeats now should prob fix it only drive my truck once a month mostly so i have pushed it off. The trailer weighs prob 1200 lbs maybe and my sxs is around 2k not alot of weight but i do feel it.
