I have a 05 power stroke 4x4 with the torqshift trans. Truck has about 7000 miles on it. What I'm curious about is the operation of this trans when not in the tow/haul mode. On a recent trip I noticed that when crusing on flat ground w/ trans in normal mode that when I would let off the accelerator the truck would slow down fairly quickly, faster than I'm use to with other automatics. Then while descending a 6% grade I noticed that the truck didn't pick up speed, in fact I had to give it a little throttle a couple of times to maintain 70 mph. Any other vehicles I have owned with auto would be doing 90+ mph down this grade with out applying the brakes.
I am only getting 14-15 mpg at 70mph on long trips. My guest would be I would get a whole lot better mpg if this trans coasted when letting off the accelerator.
Is this normal opertion for this trans when not in Tow/Haul?
If it is; Is there a way to program it to coast like most auto do?
in a nutshell... Tow/Haul causes upshifts to occur a little later, engine braking in all gears, earlier downshifts on deceleration, and earlier converter lock up. Sounds to me like your tow/haul is always on.
Not pulling or hauling anything. 5 passangers. I did not try tapping the brakes to see if it would down shift as it would if it were in T/H. I would think that on a 6% grade I would need to hit the brakes not be slowing down on its own when T/H was not engaged.

Have your had your truck on a long 6% grade unloaded and not engaging T/H during your travels and if so did you have to ride the brakes like most auto's or did it slow down on its own. From your comment I'm assuming you have to hit the brakes.
