I’m having a terrible time figuring out if my 360 is aligned in the truck correctly. I pulled the motor to do some work to it and replaced the motor mounts. I can’t for the life of me remember which way the old mounts were installed. I’ve tried them multiple ways, but have had trouble getting the clutch linkage to line up and not be crooked. I replaced the bushings and felt for the Z bar linkage. Right now, I’m pretty sure I have the mounts on the wrong side but the Z bar linkage looks good. I feel like the motor is sitting high in the front. I would love any help on this!! I’m becoming very frustrated!! Thank you in advance!
The engine should be a little higher in the front. Spacing between the oil pan and crossmember looks about right though it's a little hard to be sure when looking at photos. Is your tranny bolted in place and connected to the bellhousing?
I switched the motor mounts to the correct side according to part numbers last night. The front of the motor sits a little lower than previously. I decide I was going to just bolt it back up and see what I got. The Z bar for the clutch is not parallel and sits at a little angle, but it’s the best I have been able to get it. I do have the bellhousing and transmission bolted up and it all lines up with the crossmember for the transmission Mount. The only thing that seems off is the Z bar and it’s not terrible, but I feel like it should be completely parallel.
The zbar looks cockeyed compared to its surroundings though it does seem to be lined up okay with the clutch pedal rod and clutch release lever. Again, kinda hard to tell just by looking at pictures. Perhaps have someone press the clutch pedal to the floor and release it while you lie under the truck and watch the zbar move.
The Z bar seems to function ok, but the clutch pedal doesn’t completely return. You have to pull up on it with your foot in the cab. I had to move the return spring because of the headers and I’m thinking it’s not tight enough to return the pedal completely. I don’t know if I should keep messing with the alignment of the Z bar or not??? I don’t understand why it’s not perfectly straight???
