Bought this thing when I was 18, daily drove it like this for a while.
Broke a bunch of parts on it, and it ended up sitting behind the shop for a bit. Started to rebuild it into more of a wheeler, got cancer, and once again it ended up sitting for a while. Went something like this
Once I had my strength back after chemo, I ended up putting one my Toyota's back together, since it was the closest to being done, and this truck was left, still sitting.
The 'yota
Got a wild hair, and gathered up some bigger parts for the Ford, this is where the build starts to get interesting
This is the clearance around the front chunk at full bump. I'm going to have to run a two piece front driveshaft to clear the engine block.
Ride height will be a little taller than this
Finally got off my *** and finished the other two wheels for it
Here's the basics of how I recentered them.
Step 1: Probably the most important step. Remove the tire from the rim/break the bead and a put a block in to keep it from reseating/or do like I did and holesaw a hole in the tire. You don't want a tire blowing up on you. Then cut the center out
Step 2: I broke the bead on the trailer tires ( a bottle jack and a heavy truck works quite well for this), and used some prybars to pry one side off the wheel. Cut the center out
Step 3: I put the wheel on the welding table, and used some scrap steel to set the backspace. Take a bunch of measurements to make sure it's centered, and weld away. Reseat the tire, and fill with air
Cut apart some old driveshafts. This is the easiest way I have found to do this.
Grind the weld down
Make two cuts, opposite sides
Cut around the weld, then hammer a chisel into the cuts you made
You'll be left with a pile of drive shaft parts
That's pretty much up to date. Truck is sitting again though. Sold my Yota to a buddy, and am building a cheap(er) wheeler. I changed career paths and have to buy a bunch of tools, so this will be on the back burner for a bit.
Awesome fabrication work, stellar, but it's not even remotely a dentside at this point (cab only), perhaps this is more apropos in the 4x4 forum? nice trail rig though.

It's in the offroad section, I was asked to post a build thread here also. It will eventually have all the sheet metal again
