Funny thing-back in 2001 when I got my first X, the service guys at the dealer said the V-10 took 6 1/2 quarts-not 6 like the owner's manual says. I believe years ago someone coined 5W20 as "sewing machine" oil. Rumor was they ran 5W20 for better gas mileage-I hope their selection of that oil was more sophisticated than that. 5W30 will cost you 1 MPG as I would run it from time to time in my other 2 V-10s. 1 MPG is kind of a joke when you drive an X. I just never had any other V-10 show up with no oil on the dipstick after 4K miles. Of course, I used to change the oil every 3K miles or less. I did that one on my first, which I raised from new, and it would maybe use a 1/2 qt in 3k miles if that.
I've put up about 300 miles on this oil change so far and up to now it has been fine. Fingers crossed.
