Have a chance to buy a 2002 Excursion with under 30k miles. Its basically brand new. Should I buy it?
Its at an auction right now and the bid is under 13k with another week to go.
It was kept in a heated garage basically for the last 20 years and only used as a fire department captains vehicle.
EDIT: It has the V10 engine and 4.30 axle.
"Transmission: Automatic -- Engine: V10 Triton, Gas -- GVWR: 8,900# -- Equipment: Running Boards, Kussmal Auto Eject Power Unit, Class III 2” Receiver Hitch, JVC Touch Screen Radio, Metal Storage Area in Center Console, Extendo Bed Co. Pull-out Rolling Track Compartment - Model: EB 1260, Wired 12V Outlets, Back Seat Has Headrest and Plastic Safety Glass, Strikeforce VC7 Siren and Light Bar Controls, Amber Arrow Stick, Shift On-the-Fly 4WD, Rear Leather Seats, Front Cloth Seats -- Used as a Rescue Vehicle"
If the listing is accurate it's going to be going for way more than 13k by the time it is done. While the v10s are not as desirable as the 7.3 for example, there have been several low mileage examples like that that have shown up on the board here for more than $30k that sold. At 13k its a steal but it will be a lot higher when it's all said and done. Then you have to ask yourself if you really want to pay that kind of money for a 20 year old vehicle.

I figured, hoping this one falls between the cracks!

I'd pay 15k... not 30k. Would be nice to get a low mileage truck and have no car payments!
Op, it's your money. I would imagine it's like new condition, bid it up
until YOU think it's time to bow out.
Sad thing about auctions is people get caught up in the bidding process
And get a little out of control.
I probably would have paid 17 to 20 for an immaculate truck with that low of miles. It's definitely worth every ounce of 13 to 15.
Good luck but I see that one going up quickly but you might get lucky seeing how the gas prices are going right now it might turn off a lot of buyers and allow you to steal it.
I would maybe go as high as $18K on it as long as it IS NOT an SSV model without the rear heat and AC, that would be a deal breaker. And if it’s from the rust belt I’d have to see some very good pics of the underbody to verify if it was well washed after responses in the salt. Hopefully it’s not too butchered up by the Fire Depts mods with several holes in the body and interior trim, I know my old Dept wasn’t shy about drilling holes when needed.
