Drag link conversion
Drag link conversion
Hello all, I'm looking for Moog part numbers to build a adjustable drag link for my 79 F250 D44. I'd rather not use the Moog DS913 link, it is non adjustable or repairable and quite expensive. Thanks in advance.

Just for the record, I looked a bit too, but cutting and welding one's own is all I come up with.
You might find a longer adjustable tie rod like is in front of the axle now, but cut a long section out of the long part and weld the left handed threaded left over stub to the left over joint end, that is IF the joints have the correct taper on the ball joint studs? Do you need an adjustment now or is it just for looks? It's just "push - pull", a fixed one can be cut and shortened, or even lengthened. I would not trust such welding to Joe across the road, but I would trust mine.

My drag link is getting a little loose in the sockets and the Moog DS913 is quite pricey. I've searched this forum and the 67-72 forum, could not come up with any part numbers as yet. I will post up when/if I find any info. I tried grinnergetter Moog part numbers and the taper diameter are to small for my '79 D44. Thanks aldridgec and tbear853.
My drag link is just starting to get slack on the pitman side, so not worn out yet. I replaced my long tie rod and thot to improve the drag link. I'm not familiar with shimming, don't know how. Thx.
Do any of the parts on this page help? https://www.wildhorses4x4.com/catego...rods-draglinks
(edit: Sorry, was thinking "f150" automatically with the adjustable comments. Realized after the fact that the 913 is the short link)
The #792019 is a full kit with tie-rod, but the #792195 is a draglink only. I'm only assuming it fits a stock tie-rod, but that might depend on which tie-rod setup you have. If a standard '78/'79 setup it should work I think. Can find out for sure though if it comes down to that.
Don't know if you saw those already and decided they were not for you, but figured I'd give a shameless plug to some of our company's stuff anyway!
I realize shipping can be an issue, but can't help with general part numbers, if they even exist, that would cross over to local stuff.
Good luck in the hunt.

Sorry, missed that you had a 250 with the short draglink. Oops!
Have you looked into some of the old lift companies like Superlift or Skyjacker? Maybe they have too much drop, but thought they had some basic ones as well.

Thanks for the link. I did look at Wildhorses4x4 early on. A lot of good selection. My suspension is stock height. The stock DS913 drag link is plentiful if I have to succumb to that. Just trying to fab a three piece adjustable link with on the shelf tie rod ends for less money. Time is on my side. Thx.
I don't know if the 79 is the same but I just finished putting an adjustable drag link made from Moog parts on my 77 F250 4x4 today. It took an ES2012S, ES3625 (edit: the taper angle on this one seems wrong after checking it), and ES444L to get the ~15.5" I needed. Adjustable range with those parts should be about 13.1" to 15.6". The only issue I ran into is needing to put a washer under the castle nut to get it up high enough for the cotter pin to do anything. Final cost was about $115. Also tried with an ES3624 and an ES3527 but the studs were too short.
That's great info Hyperbole! Glad you chimed in with it. Especially the details of length range and part numbers.
Just for the record, what truck to you have? A '79 F250? 350? Four-wheel drive of course? Since I don't think any of the 2-wheel trucks had the same design, I'm just assuming it's 4-wheel drive.
Oh, and was this a part(s) listed for your truck specifically, or did you have to dig into things to put the numbers together?
Thanks

Thank you Hyperbole for the part numbers. My stock non adjustable drag link measures 13.5" center to center of the grease zerks. Your assembly certainly is within range for length. This will help me and others trying to avoid the high cost of the stock drag link which is a non stock order to begin with. Thanks to all replies.

he stated 77 f250 4x4, but may have added that. I am assuming it's a late model, but I'm not familiar with the highboys very well but i believe they have a complety different setup. These parts are sorta listed, the es444lis a tie rod for the earlier trucks but the es3625 is for a dodge. I'm betting that's the one with the washer on it as I noticed that too, and probably why I passed on it when I looked into it. You should ensure the taper matches exactly as they don't always, but will feel tight until they break.
Superlift makes and adjustable drop arm - about $250 a couple yrs ago.
I have a stock replacement moog on the shelf for 77.5-79 F250 and F350 - it has about 100 miles on it if you are interested?
I put the superlift unit on my truck to account for the lift it has.
Feel free to send me a PM.
