E4OD question

Just wanted to see if this happened to others. Did a short drive to pickup some stuff, started up a slight hill, selector was in D range, out of nowhere it went into neutral I made a quick look and yes in D, I immediately pulled it into 2nd, and all was good for the last 600 feet to the persons driveway. It ran and shifted okay on the home trip. Check fluid level and in the good range. I have never had that happen before. Any idea's?

Sounds like a bad MLPS switch, see if any codes are stored for the transmission it can give you a idea on what might have happened.

Codes likely gone since the bat is disconnected when not in use.

So if the MPLS goes out will it still do the limp mode? I guess stays in 2nd gear? What about reverse?

I don't know what an e40 tranny is. You probably mean E4OD. If so, that's not the transmission that came with that truck. The last year for the E4OD was 1998. Your truck would have had either a 4R70W or a 4R100.

If you want to replace the trans with a different type of trans have a LARGE pile of cash on hand. That is a very expensive change. You'll need new wiring and a new computer.
