I have a 05 6.0 psd. What are signs of egr failure? My truck is studded and still seems to be losing coolant and truck isnt running right at all, a very big loss of power but the truck is NOT puking out the degas and no oil and water mix. Does blow a tiny amount of white smoke at takeoff and idle. someone told me that head gasket failure doesnt cause a big power loss so im thinking its egr failure, what do yall think?
You can park the truck nose down overnight.Next morning remove the EGR valve and look for coolant pooled in the intake. You can have some soot on the valve normally. If it looks steam cleaned or there is pooling of coolant the cooler is cracked. Just saw that Striderwv has you covered. All the info in his link.

does a cracked egr cooler cause performance issues? Like bad acceleration and poor drivability?

I have not heard of any drivability issues with egr failure. If an overheat happens because the coolant loss is not caught then the bigger problems happen. A lot of us monitor engine temps and some have installed low coolant alarms. If you are having drivability issues then there are more than likely some stored trouble codes even without the check engine light. Forscan/Forscan Lite download is an inexpensive capable code retriever. You would need to get a compatible OBD reader for whatever type of cell phone you have. An android will require bluetooth while Apple will use a wifi version OBD link.
Dieseltechron is a great resource on YouTube as well as Srmastertech to help with the nuts and bolts of many issues.

i went ahead and got rid of the egr cooler. Still running the same. Theres no black smoke or anything. Injectors are new, it coded for ebp sensor, notised it was completely unplugged, plugged it in, cleared code and still dont run right. I also replaced the turbo and ipr. Im out of ideas. Was also coding for manifold absolute pressure.
