Transmission shift linkage backwards?
I have a 1986 ford ranger 2.9l v6. I bought this truck a while ago and the previous owner converted this from a standard to an automatic transmission. The issue I have though is park is at the very bottom (gear 1) this is park. And at the very top which is normally park is actually first gear. The vehicle follows the normal PRND21 but starting at the bottom instead of the top. I'm just wondering what causes this? Backwards shift linkage ? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The floor shifter mounts to the floor pan, a rod runs forward to cross bar like linkage, another rod from it runs back to the trans, it might be hooked up backwards, or the cross bar is missing, and the shifter is hooked direct to the trans.
