I had a friend replace the automatic teransmition in my ranger 4x4 now the park skips and does not hold not even on a small hill. The trans came from a junk yard. what should I look for in fixing this problem? What happened did the friend miss align something. PLZ HELP ? :confused
if the tranny/engine are not perfectly sitting on their mounts/crossmember, than your shift linkage may not be lined up quite right to keep the tranny's park pawl engaged. here's a test:
put the truck in park, block the wheels, and climb under it. find where the shift link rod attaches on the side of the tranny, and see if you can rotate the tranny's shift arm any further in the direction of park. if you still have a fair amount of play in that direction, do what you have to... it should be fairly simple to bend the shift linkage slightly to adjust it, or check the mounting and make sure everything is true.
