So I just bought an 89 f150 XL and I doubt this did anything but I installed a new radio (kenwood) and it was still running perfectly fine, then 2 days later I pressure washed it to clean it up(in hindsight I should’ve had it running while I did it) and now it will crank and it sounds like it wants to start but it won’t. I’ve checked the air filter, fuel filter, ignition coil, EEC, and I replaced the distributor and rotor button. Everything under the bay was totally dry for the most part so im stumped. Its getting enough power to distributor and coil and I’ve even tried using starter fluid to assist in starting it but nothing. It is a push to start so I have to put the key into the ignition, put it into on position and then press the button but it usually cranks right up but now it just keeps cranking but won’t start anybody have any solutions? (Truck has 5.0 302 V8)
Most likely it is electrical due to the pressure wash. I would start with water in the distributor which is condensing inside the cap. Remove the distributor cap and look inside the cap for water. Replace the cap and pull one of the spark plugs. Put the wire back on the spark plug and ground the plug somewhere that you can watch it. With your finger in the plug hole, crank the motor and watch for a spark each time the compression blows out the plug hole. Actually, it could be something simple like a stuck choke.
