Question V6 Duals Pipe dia?

Hey guys I just registered and have a question.

I have a 94 ranger with a 4.0 V6. I just put in some headman headers and am going with 40 series delta flows. My question is how big should my pipe be. I having a local shop leave off the cats and custom bend the whole thing but i dont know what size pipe to get. I'm not using a y pipe but just haveing 2 pipes come strait off the headers. Any body know what size i should get? I was thinking 2 1/4 or 2 1/2. Thanks

I am sorry to hear that you are removing the smog equipment. For that motor, I would imagine dual 2.25"s should work fine (a single 3" flows enough for ~360rwhp if that gives you some kind of benchmark).

Anyone else have any input on my pipe size?

Would there be a problem with going 2.25" to my muffler then 2.5" out to a 18" long 3 inch tip?

just trying to explore all options.

Respectfully, you are not just putting &*%^ in the *Michigan* air. Please, try and think a little larger than your own back yard!

Now, to answer your question:

The appropriate size pipe will depend on your intention.

If you just want noise - it doesn't matter what size.

If you want low end power; stay small, duel 2 1/4 is the MAX I would recommend.

If you plan on turning into the 4-6000 RMP range I would recommend dual 2 1/2 to 2 3/4 inch pipe.

so 2 1/2 wouldn't be too big?

I hope to add a diable dealta chip, bbk throttle body and granetelli MAF soon so would 2 1/2 be okay for duals then? I haven't heard that many people's input on this. Even with headers and the other stuff i will still gain torque above stock with 2 1/2 inch pipes right.

--Oh yeah.. I really dont care that much about the sound. Thats why i just found some cheap flows and i'm hoping for the best. I just want more power...But I dont need to burn out for 50 feet. (only like 15).
