I want to see what mods need to be done when running LONg headers on a 86 Bronco c-6 4x4. After reading a few forums some peps say to run the LONGER headers then the shorties. I'm sure there alot of opionins on this matter, just i want to see how big of a pain in the butt it will be to get it done. Plus the MONEY issue is a BIG factor as well, for the fabrication of new pipes.
Long tube headers will provide you with much more low end torque versus a "shorty" style header. The downside is that you will have to fabricate a new Y pipe (or new duals if thats the case). Also, there can be some clearance issues if you offroad with this vehicle. For the most part, the best trade off is to run equal length, shorty headers. I dont know much about long tubes, so I dont want to start spewing out half truths. Have you posted into the big bronco forum? Also, you might want to check out www.ford-trucks.com to see if they have more info for you.
I've got a set of dynomax long tubes on mine, it would have been a PIA if i didnt already have all the emission trash ripped off, the only part that was close on clearence was the driver side on the c-6's pan there was hardly no clearence but the muffler shop bent it over so its got a 1/4" now. I think the main difference between long tube and shorties is the long tubes give you a little more high end hp and a little more torque.
That for the replies! I was reading up on the equal length shorty header, the #1 complaint i saw was the way the tubes were bent, they gave no clearance to change out spark plugs w/ out removing them. I do believe i heard about BBK( i think its BBK) shorties headers that gave you room, thats from a websites. Has any nody heard if thats true?? So the EQUAL length headers do almost the same thing as the long headers too??
When i talk to my local muffler shop they told to bring the truck up there when i get the headers on.Then they will customize the new y-pipe. They quoted me around 100$. It will be more though if they supply the catalic converters. I'll mmore then likely get some high-flow CATS and trashed the stock ones.
