5r55e Problems
I have a 2003 Ford Ranger 3.0L equipped with a 5r55e. I removed the motor, rebuilt it ground up, and reinstalled. Days later I got a O/D light flashing, code said Torque Converter slipping greater than expected. Replaced TCC solenoid, no luck. I removed the transmission later and found the torque converter to be shredded. Turns out when I reinstalled motor, I didn't get the converter all the way back in. Here's where it gets tricky for me. I buy a new converter, filter, put new pump seal and bushing in and reinstall the transmission.... Truck will not engage in any gear. I removed the transmission and found my pump bushing was blocking the recess hole in the housing, and when I tried spinning the pump with the torque converter and bellhousing, it wouldn't spin. Finally, I cleaned up the hole where the bushing was on the bellhousing/wear plate and greased it up. After this it began to turn freely. I reinstall the transmission... No engagement in any gear.... What doesn't make sense to me is why would this happen now? The transmission worked perfectly fine and shifted beautifully when the TC was slipping.
One other thing I noticed was when re installing the trans, I kind of have to pull the TC studs through the flywheel because I can't get them started even when the transmission is tightened to the block. My torque converter part # is FM136HD, says to fit a 5r55e.So with all of that, can my pump be bad if the 2 gears look fine? What else could it be, going off the fact that it worked fine before being removed.
