I listed a post a while ago about my C6 whining. I was told it could be the pump or a vacuum leak. I took it to the trans shop and they said it is probably the torque converter. How the #@** is that possible? He said it may be coming apart. Everything else he said seemed to be in another language. I have had good luck on these boards, so I post the question, How can a torque converter whine?
I don't know much about auto trannys, but based on what I do know...
Whine is usually associated with the pump, but maybe if the torque converter has balloned then the loose tolerances inside could cause a whine. ? Don't know for sure though. I'd go to another shop and see what they say. (don't mention the converter)
Also if your fluid is too low or too high there could be air going through the pump.
Hmmm... A torque converter whine?? That's a new one on me. I've heard converters make all sorts of noises while coming apart, but never a whine. I'm not saying that it's not possible though.
