It's a customer order that's been shipped actually.. they might not be as crazy on status checking as the rest of us whoever the owner is.

Nope, my truck is still stuck in scheduling purgatory. And no idea if the other dude knows his truck is showing up next week. Probably not since it’s linked to my account. His surprise will be much better than mine though…

it’s a barebones XL vs a Lariat ultimate with bedliner and fifth wheel.

They sell a LOT of Lariats, most popular ordered trim on this site by a decent margin if I recall. The bed liner 5th wheel, yes, those caused enough delays on my ordered XL/STX that I cancelled after 4 months last summer. Lots of Lariat trucks were built ahead of mine. Dealer changed the color to white, deleted a bunch of options and it was built a month later. It remains a total crapshoot, there is no rhyme or reason and I have not seen any evidence that ordering a lower trim level ensures your truck gets built sooner.

Lower trim generally means fewer computer chips needed so if you need a truck fast, an XL is probably the way to go.

More production of higher trims generally means a larger pool of parts. Unique XL parts might not be easier to come by as the more common high end parts. Tail lights would be one example. Every trim above XL has BLIS in the tail lights. Probably makes the XL ones the more rare part, which often means it is harder, not easier to get. Tie that with rumors Ford was pushing production of higher priced units to hold stockholders at bay plus my experience ordering an XL and my take is, an XL will take as long or longer than anything other than maybe a Limited or maybe Platinum. It isn't just chips anyway, lots of parts are backordered.

Anybody that thinks this might work, actually give it a try, I did, it was a real eye opener for me.

Ford publishes what parts are limiters. None of them are present on a base XL. How long have you been waiting for an XL? I can assure you it is much less time than any truck configured with one of the items Ford shows as commodity restraints.

I ordered an F350 Reg Cab 4x4 STX in white without bed liner or 5th wheel hitch on 2-21-22 and I'm not scheduled yet so only time will tell.
