Just had a rollercoaster of emotions here. Only communication I have gotten from Ford has been the order confirmation email. 4x4 F350 Lariat ultimate, BAP, fifth wheel prep, ... basically every option but adaptive steering. Haven't checked on it in months, figured it will get here when it get's here -- no reason to loose sleep over it. Decided to check on status today, and there’s a freakin' VIN number, window sticker, and it's shipped!!!! Finally!!!! Why I didn't get any emails, I don't know.... but I don't care!

But wait... window sticker/vin show it as a F350 dually XL, lightly optioned. Immediately call the dealer, basically WTF is going on, I have a signed order form. He sees the same on his end -- calls Ford. Apparently Ford sent the VIN, etc of another customer at the same dealership to me -- but tagged it with my order number. My truck's still in purgatory due to fifth wheel and bedliner.... WHY ME! LOL I've been so good not checking on it!

I need a beer....

Actually can someone explain this to me... it seems how this happened is the sales manager at the dealer I am using used the same order number for two different orders. One was mine a SRW F350, another was a DRW F350, he says he can reuse the same order number because they are different body styles. And that is standard practice. I call bull**** as this being standard practice, and it obviously caused issues....

That doesn’t sound right to me. I would call Ford customer service for additional verification or talk with someone higher up at dealership.

If you were to go over to BOF, the ford employee who does tracking mentions this all the time. He asks for your order# and dealer code. He also wants a description of the vehicle because dealers use the same order#.

I called Ford and they confirmed that they do in fact have 2 orders with the same order number from my dealer. Wrong one was just linked to my account. The fact their system allows this to happen is pretty crappy. I have never encountered this anywhere else. Let alone one of the largest car manufacturers in the world…

When you buy 2 items from any online retailer do you have 2 separate orders or order numbers?

This is not rocket science or in any way confusing.

Sorry, are you saying I have no business being confused that my Ford account was linked and showing tracking info for the wrong truck? Maybe I misunderstood what you meant.

My order form vs what shows on my Ford account. Bottom right was just dealer showing the other order number. Wrong truck is still linked to my account…. Even after calling Ford and they said the fixed it…

I am saying that the practice of a business ordering more than one item or piece of equipment on a single purchase order is pretty much standard practice. The fact that the line item information for your truck was mixed up with someone else’s is unfortunate but we live in a fallen world, so it happens.

That would've certainly let the wind out of my sails. I'm not so far along on my wait, but I am thinking that I just need to be patient, not look for emails, not call the dealer, etc and just wait. I would definitely be looking for a beer after getting excited and let down like that. Fingers crossed for you to get good news soon.

Copy. A single Purchase Order in between Ford and a dealer makes sense if all the trucks were placed on the same day. But there should still be something differentiating the individual line items on that order. Are Ford and a dealer really reading options and descriptions back to each other to identify a particular vehicle, if they have 10 trucks on the same PO? That’s crazy… and I’m sure what lended itself to this error.

That's a single order for multiple items and possibly a single shipment. We're talking about multiple orders and multiple customers, makes no sense.

Maybe that’s the real reason our orders take so long. Ford has an army of people verifying options and order names of matched order numbers to make sure the right truck gets routed to the right person 😂 I’m actually impressed I’ve never heard of this happening to someone else.

What’s done is done. Has your dealer given you an updated ETA? Was the DRW truck a customer order and do they know their truck is built?

I wish it were that easy! haha

My dealer does the first letter of the month for the first one, then 3 digits for a sequence number. They have only certain people actually enter the orders.

However, it clearly also allows for duplicates. Probably less of an issue in pre-covid times when we weren't waiting 12 months for a vehicle.
