I have any 88 f150 351w 300,643miles. Ford said my thortle body needs work but other than that its good. OK, I only get 8mpg and its guttless going over hills 55 mph max empty. Could the problem be in the transmission or would a faulty throttle body do that?
i wouldn't think that a throttle body would be responsible for all that. I would have to say that after that many miles the engine is just tired and in need of a rebuild. Thats a lot of miles. I have 107,000 on my '90 302 and it still climbs hills at 75 mph and i get about 14 mpg. If the transmission has never been redone, it would be worn out after that many miles as well.
I agree with yellowjeep76 and would like to add take it to someone else. The throttle body needs work? Did they explain that one to you. How much oil does it use and how much psi is your oil pressure at? Have you done a compression test or leakdown?
The oil pressure is good. The top end was done in aug. but i hade the problem for some time. I use less than 1 qt. betwew changes(3000 miles religiously). I'll have the trans done next. It drives great except for top speed and mpg. I loaded it last week with 3 skiploader buckets of dirt and a trailer with a trencher pulled away and drove no problem just slow. The throttle body is on the way I figure its that old I'll just change it. Thanks
