My issue is 14k trailers up and down the short steeeeep hills/mtns here, no time for brakes to cool off, gets front shaking a bit and trailer brakes smoking. Gonna be using an exhaust brake soon, and may add these for peace of mind hauling that weight with the wife and 3 kids with me
I think heat dissipation and fade resistance would be the main benefit from the 450 brakes. SSBC calipers on the stock 13" rotor probably would stop the truck as well or maybe even better than 450 brakes with stock pads, but would probably heat up and fade quicker with repeated use or riding the pedal down a hill.

agreed. But the ssbc should continue to clamp harder under the abuse.
There is no way I am swapping to the bigger brakes
The rear axle/hubs will not be 8x170 on the F450/550..
I would assume not. Interestingly, Rock Auto catalog shows no listing for rear hubs in the 450 or 550 directory. (Just fronts.) I was hoping for some pictures.

It's the same one for all 99-04 F250-550 as well as the Excursion according to Rock Auto again.
It also shows the 450/550 use the same bigger pad and caliper on the rear as the front, with the rear rotor listed at 15.5" diameter vs. 12.8" on the 350 DRW. That won't be interesting to anybody here unless they happen to have a 350 DRW with a Dana 80 because none of that will work on the SRW axle, but there it is. Probably not worth the hassle there unless you also wanted 19.5" wheels and tires on the back for some reason.
Couldn't find a picture or part number of this 8x170 to 8x225 front hub adapter but the online Ford parts catalogs play coy with the 450/550 and pretend they don't exist.

I can testify that SSBCs hold up great under repeated use without time for cooldown from many red light drag races…

I have a couple sets of DRW adapters for 8x170 to 8x225 (and also late model 10x220)
I ran the 8x225 and 19.5” wheels on the front of my F350 for awhile and decided I didn’t like the 19.5’s enough to explore changing the rear to 8x225.

The rear would be the more likely place I'd be okay with it, but only for the other benefits of finding a junkyard 450 Dana 80 axle. Mine has the 3.73 ratio and the small brakes. A 4.30 or 4.88 ratio axle with the factory big brakes would be a cool swap. One with a factory LSD/anti-spin differential would really be the hat trick. If you ever happen to come across one matching that description let me know.

SSBC is the only option I'd have for the front. Plus I like that they are aluminum and probably save a couple pounds over the stock caliper. I already have plans swap the steel wheels for the stock 16" aluminum wheels (only 19 lbs!) and a lighter comfort tire even if they don't last as long.
Anyone know if the ssbc calipers would fit with my Centramatic balancers?
Those sit way outboard of the caliper on a dually wheel I would guess so. I have them on the front of mine too. SRW not sure...last I checked I don't think they even offer Centramatics for SRWs.

A while back I asked about a set for the SRW and Jerry at Centramatic said the 300-318 was the right fit for my 2000 F-250 SRW. I never got around to purchasing them though as I have had no out of balance or abnormal tire wear.
