About three weeks ago I had my back brakes replaced on my 95 Bronco. They were done at Meineke. Since i got them done, I've been smelling some brake rub. At first I thought that because they were new, that's why they smelled. Now I have noticed an unusual amount of brake dust on my front driver side wheel. When I had taken the truck in, they looked at all four brakes. They did the back, and said that the front ones were fine. Is it possible that they might have done something to the front ones when they looked at them? I've been itching to take a peek myself, but if they screwed up something, they will have to fix it, and I don't want them to say that I did anything to it after the fact. So what's your opinion?
I suppose this is where that old saying comes in place. You get what you pay for, because I didn't pay anything for the brake job.
if they took your pads out the pistons have to be retracted to put the pads back in might of got the piston stuck and is forcing the pade against the roter and pad is dragging. take it back as the excess heat might warp your rotor.
other than worn out pads or sticking brake caliper, there is no adjustment on front disc brakes, but another posibility is if the back brake adjustment is to loose then it will cause extra presure to the front brakes to make the same stop, therefore creating extra heat and weare on the front. DW
has anyone ever adjusted the brake booster push rod? if it extends too far your brakes will drag or always be on, but if its not out far enough you could loss all braking even if only one line fails.
did your rear brake repair include a brake line repair? if so someone may have extended the pushrod to get better front braking. but as soon as you repair the rear everything drags (or possibly even catches fire)
As far as I know, it was just the brakes and rotors in the back. I've called the place, and their going to look at it in the morning. Just needed some ideas before I took it in and started hearing the BS from the shop.
I'll keep you posted. Thanks guys!
Took the Bronc to the shop. They took a look, and they didn't see anything wrong. But they took the time to readjust everything. After a lot of blah blah from the mech, he said that I might have a caliper that might stick occasionally. To make a long story short, they must have done something, because the ride felt very different. The smell is gone, and there was a slight drag before that I don't have now. Go figure.
Thanks again for the input.
