Quick Easy Immobilizer

Thinking this through but what if on the automatic trucks we were to tap into the clutch pedal switch bypass with a toggle or momentary.

Thoughts from anyone else???

almost seems too simple.

I didn't even know the auto trucks included that, standing by for you to do it and write it up

Would a kill switch suffice?

If so, a switch in the ground leg of the IPR, IDM or PCM circuits would work well. I tend not to recommend a starter kill switch because the starter can act as an alarm due to the noise level and if the starter is disabled, the would be thief may look for a reason why the starter is not working.

As for using the clutch safety switch, I would have to look through the wiring diagrams in order to see if that would work.

My daughter's first new vehicle was a standard, she actually wanted a 3 pedal vehicle. She would still be in that car had some jackleg not rear ended her in Norman, OK.

Mark, you and your family are not the "norm" by any means. In a good way though...

I'm not in Norman
My oldest keeps reminding me how many weeks until she starts driving. A couple weeks ago I told her not to worry, you'll be driving the truck by the end of summer She abruptly changed her tune and pleaded to learn on the HHR instead. Nope. Once you learn how to drive this huge truck you'll have the confidence & ability to drive anything you want the rest of your life

White/Pink and Blue/Orange on the 99-01 and Light Blue/Yellow and Tan/Red on 02-03. It still won't deter anyone who opens the hood and jumps the relay on the inner fender of the older ones and just connects/bypasses the connector on the 02-03s.

In the early 80’s I learned on a Volvo 122 Amazon while mom was at work, and dad was out of town.

By the time dad was ready to teach me let’s just say I was way more confident than he was.

I will be using a momentary switch for the enable, and will be splicing into the pink/white.

Sous, I thought hard about the No starter alerting said thief, and possibly them finding the switch.

Alternative is something that has the ability to allow starter to turn but kills power to… if there is a malfunction then it dies no matter where I am, or what I am towing. With what I have just experienced with the aftermarket immobilizer recently removed from my truck the simpler the better.

Just have to figure out the amps required for the momentary as well as a good placement before moving forward.

The current only has to run a relay. A 2A switch will be more than sufficient.

Agreed.

this is a deterrent not a foolproof.

My biggest worry is a flatbed or wheel lift tow truck.

There is no stopping the determined.

Giving would be thief the obstacle of having to pop the hood to jump the relay, which we could make harder to do if we desire, gives us much needed time to unholster our desired caliber hold them until “authorities” show up and prevent any further attempts of theft…
