I ordered a GPS switch awhile back because I was so ignorant about automobile electronics that I didn’t know there were “switched” and “constant” power modes. So I bought a switch. The cigarette lighter plug-in I used was constant, so I had to plug-in/plug-out to keep the battery from running down.
To do it over again, I would just hard wire the GPS to my my switched fuse block and be done with it.
Thanks guys for suggesting a bench test of the lights to check the polarity. I have never done that before. So I rigged up a set of wired alligator clips and eyelet terminals.
You guys were spot on. In my case the white wire is negative and the black is positive. Never would have guessed.
Thanks again for the help!
