where is the best place to pick up the 12 volts with ignition on? also need to pick up the gauge lights whenever the other lights are on. is there anywhere to get a wiring diagram for this truck. 2007 f350 drw. think i will remove the exhaust manifold to drill and tap it. i know there is a slim chance of something getting into the turbo if all the proper precautions are taken, but i just can't make myself drill it in place.
For the lights take out your head light switch on the dashboard. There will be some wires from the dimmer switch. Get a electrical test light and poke it in the wires and use your dimmer to find which wire makes the test light dim. For power I just went through the manual and found fuses that sounded like they would work when I tured the key on.(Radio, somthing like that). I was also afraid to drill my manifold but I put a glob of grease on the drill bit and the tap to catch the shavings. Then used a small magnet and it worked great. Good luck.
Behind the fuse panel is a red w/ yellow trace wire for +12V Key On and then in the light switch the wire for Illumination is light blue w/ red tracer.
The redneck way I did it was "gently" rip it off and when finished, superglue it back on as all the plastic "****" break off when getting the cover off. The switch housing itself use 3 little screwdrivers and pry all twards the middle and it slides right out.
Thanks guys. I will do it today. I was out last night and the guage was dark and my wife asked what I did wrong. Everytime she gets in the truck she asks, ok what have you done to it this week.
