I have our heater disassembled for cleaning, painting, and reassembly. I upgrade it a few years ago with a new heater core, made for Ford Explorers, if I remember correctly. The motor still runs smooth and quite so it will get a drop or two of oil(probably) and be reinstalled.
The truck it came out of was red so I had painted the bar across the front red. I guess it will be blue this time.
I'm thinking about using hammer finish paint on the body of the heater.
Originally they were painted with a splatter finish which has more depth than hammer tone. The whole front grille was painted argent originally like this, but you can do whatever you like.
You may want to take the hamster wheel fan out and clean it. I found a lot of dirt, dust and grime on the fins of the fan on my 54 back in 1999.
Looks good! My heater has a different look because of the aluminum core. Anybody else using the Ford explorer core? It fits fine but the hose connections are in a different position so at least one hole in the firewall is wrong. I filled one and made one new hole on our other '56 that this heater came out of.
The cardboard (?) defroster connector, under the dash, at the windshield, was still in place on the passenger side. I'm thinking about using it as a mold and making a new pair from fiberglass.

Indybeer, is the light blue on your firewall the original color? It looks like the light blue ( waterfall blue or diamond blue, they're very close, not sure which it was ) that was on our '56 Panel. We're thinking about reusing it , either with white, or a darker blue for a two-tone.
Have a set of defrost ducts if you are interested . Like new /never been installed .
This just hit me funny. I'm glad it happens, but I can't imagine having a new part that has just been sitting on people's shelves for 65+ years. That sounds insane.
When I looked at the unworn paint of my heater I restored for my 56 it looked to be like the "wrinkle paint", so thats what I used and mine looks nice to me,
