How is everyone doing with their Ex and these current fuel prices? With the v10, I really have not found a way to save fuel outside of being light on the peddle.
So my question to you all is… what cost saving measures has you found that works for you. I would love to hear your thoughts?
For my family, our ex is not used on a daily basis. Unless it's all of us that have to go somewhere, a trailer is needed, or our other vehicle-jeep patriot- is not available, it does not get used. The gas versions are not cost effective to use as daily drivers, at least not for me. The best way to save gas money on the ex, is drive something else that gets better economy! Added bonus- the reduced wear and tear on the ex will help it last longer, which is a big deal for me. I love mine and will hate the day that it has to go.
What Dweber85rc said. And you are correct, going easy on the skinny pedal and keeping the speed a little lower on the highway is the only way to improve the fuel mileage on a V-10 EX. You also want to keep it properly maintained with fresh plugs and boots and proper tire inflation. Our EX is the dedicated tow rig for our 12K TT and it doesn’t see any daily driving at all except for touring around our travel destinations. I have two cheap daily drivers, for the Winter salt season an ‘01 Suzuki Vitara and a ‘94 Geo Metro for the rest of the year. Keeping the EX in great shape for the long term and it’s important towing work is a high priority for me, especially with the current truck market situation. The 60 MPG of the mighty Metro has paid for both daily’s and their insurance costs compared to the EXs 14 MPG highway best case tanks. What are you getting in your gasser EX currently?
All great suggestions. I have thought about a secondary vehicle. With me working from home currently, I couldn’t justify the expense once figuring in the cost of the vehicle, Virginia personal property tax, sales tax, insurance and maintenance. When doing the math, a second vehicle came out as a bit more.
As far as mileage goes,we did have quite a few camping trips scheduled this year. May have to rethink some of the places further away.
Crazy to think about the world opening up, but it may cost too much for some people to get anywhere.

I hear you, but we have a two month trip planned pulling the big TT from PA out to WY hitting all of the Northern their states except ND and we are still going. You only live once and tomorrow isn’t guaranteed. I think we may be doing another long trip in the fall down to TX, AR and LA along with another trip to TN and a bunch of semi-local weekend trips. Hopefully world events and gas prices simmer down soon.
We are parking our diesel Beest except when absolutely needed. We were thinking about selling our Sequoia but now it's our main family vehicle. That said, earlier today I hauled a sofa for my daughter's new apartment.
I've got a 922 mile trip coming up in 2 weeks. Towing my trailer from Miami to Sevierville Tn for a show, Ponies In The Smokies. My 1969 Shelby will be on display and will be driving around the Pigeon Forge area. If I can find gas at an average of $4 a gallon, its going to cost me right around $1k for the Ex alone.
Bought a cover for my Excursion and will cover it when not in use. My other vehicle is a 2004 Lexus GX470 V8. It only gets 14-16 but gas is a dollar less a gallon. Will ride the Goldwing more now too. Good excuse to put more miles on the bikes.

You have offered some great advice. Our big trip this year is from Central Va to Fort Lauderdale pulling our TT. Looking forward to the trip, I will just close my eyes each time we fill up and be thankful my wife is the one that pays the bills. 😀
I will just be light on the peddle and hope to be stuck behind some Semi trucks on the way down and back.
I've switched over to driving my 00 Tundra (Yoda) until things calm down. I prefer daily driving Bertha but twice the price to fill up hurts.
I am with ya on the pain. Driving by the pumps and seeing those prices, really lowers my patience and raises my frustration level. Never a fan of being taken advantage of. Not to mention, I believe the oil companies are inflating gas prices more than they should to make an extra buck.
Sweet Jesus I thought the $3.59-3.69 here was bad. Some of you are getting bent w/ no lube.
I’ve tried to be more mild mannered with my Ex. Still, no matter what I do I’m around 10 mpg. It stays relatively loaded with tools, so that’s working against me. I thank God hat I have a job currently that is close to home.

Amen Brother! I was around during the 70s, and remember everybody letting muscle cars go because we thought the sky was falling. I let a killer 429 Mustang go for cheap. What a mistake. God willing that isn't' going to happen with the Ex.
Went for a short 150 mile drive yesterday in Southern Virginia and all Diesel was over $5 a gallon and most gas over $4 and it is not summer yet and we probably haven't felt the full problem for the Russian war. Going to get worse. We have a 5000 mile trip planned to Montana and Wyoming that is on the chopping block. Not important enough to spend that much on Diesel.
