That is exactly what everyone is trying to do here...pull you out of the VERY common bunny hole this fuel pump power circuit can trigger when someone does not know how it works.

You might want to
Replace the filter when you replace the fuel pump
At the ford dealer I worked at we would not warranty a pump unless the filter was replaced at the same time
Some of the aftermarket pumps like Airtex or Spectra do not last but a year or two
Buy those as lifetime parts if you can because you will be doing it again
