fusible link glow plug

what would be symptoms of the fusible link from pcm ( glow plug monitor) to glow plug relay be if it burned out ? would glow plugs stay on all the time ? been looking at prints trying to figure this out for a neighbor.

The glow plugs would not stay on all time if the fused links were blown/open.

May we be of assistance in another way? What are the symptoms of the problem your neighbor is experiencing?

There is no fusible link from the PCM to the glow plug. Those are over near the battery.

He says the relay is staying on , plus been frying alternators . It looks to be there are two links , one from power supply, the other goes to pcm

I can't say for sure because #1, I don't know what year truck you're working on and #2, the only one I would know for sure would be a '99-'01 because some wiring changed after that and I don't have any experience with a later model. To verify that the issue might be towards the PCM. the rear lug on the GPR is a ground and it goes to the PCM. The PCM activates the GPR by completing the ground circuit. Disconnecting that should deactivate the GPR. That ground wire could also be compromised somewhere, making contact and activating the GPR.

Photos with reference to location and closer up may help.

The only fuse links that I am aware of and could be incorrect are the two on the starter relay from the alternator. The alternator feeds to the start relay then the relay to the batteries through the passenger then the jump over to the driver side.

The PCM complete the circuit through a ground on the GPR located on the passenger side behind the fuel bowl.

But that is on the late 99-01 series. Unless I missed you did not specify what the year of the truck is.

Edit....
1. Found the mention of the year..
2. The start relay is on the passenger fender.

I would recommend removing the positive and negative terminals from the batteries and checking the connections on the GPR. Look very closely at the PCM ground trigger wire to ensure it does not have a short to ground.

Something is not right if the GPR is on and the truck is trying alternators.

What happened immediately before the alternator extermination and GPR wigging out?

Was the truck running fine and then became possessed? Was there some maintenance taking place? Perhaps an upgrade?

I’m not sure he screws with that truck all the time, wires all over the place . It’s a mess , truck has hardly been driven in two years cause he has so much performance stuff in it that it doesn’t like. Trying to get tunes right with injectors, turbo ect .
