OK I know this has been discussed before and I seem to not be getting something right here, therefore I need help. I'm trying to make my glow plug relay turn on if or when I need them. I wired in a toggle switch between the wire on the small terminal of the relay (I've tried both wires) and will pull a CEL and code P1391, P1393. How else can I keep the glow plugs from turning on w/o pulling a code? Thanks in advance for the help, aloha.

P1393 Glow plug ckt bank 2 low input
Found this doing a search of the 99-03 forum:
"Both DTC P1391 and 1393 together will set when the monitor indicates that all eight glow plugs are not being powered. An open in all glow plug circuits, the glow plug relay, glow plugs, fusible links or all thre monitoring circuits could be the possible causes"
Trucks made for sale in California have a glow plug monitor circuit that monitors/tests the glow plugs so that if they have a problem it will be fixed quickly to reduce emissions. You may have heard/read of California trucks and Federal trucks, Federal being the rest of the US. Sorry, can't help you with the wiring of the glow plug toggle switch on a "California" truck.
Yeah I saw that thread, great idea unfortunately it won't work for a CA truck. If either 12 volt wire to the GPR (the small post wires) is open, it will pull a code (see Stroker's replie). I would like to have limited my glowplug usage, therefore extending it's service life. Since I already pulled the wire for the switch I will be installing a LED monitoring glowplug status so at least I won't be burning up any wiring harnesses if I have a relay failure (as long as I'm looking for the LED). Thanks for the info, aloha.
