Here's what I have on my 66 4wd. The 'mod' work was done by PO, so I'm not steeped in the project, PS was also added to the truck, so I assume the steering changes, including the column adjustment happened together. It did come with the stock column, but I have swapped it for an IDIDIT of roughly the same geometry, though I did make a small length change at the time. Also came with the small steering wheel - about 13.5" diameter. I'm not a big guy, but with my seat position and this set-up, even I hit the wheel with my knees due to the long throw of the pedals - so I guess you guys fighting this have a point. Below are the pics I could muster - kind of a lot, but might help you make a plan. I can get some measurements tonight if you'd like. BTW, your 4-spoke wheel is rare and not reproduced.
Its not so much the leg issues as it is getting used to the steering wheel in my 300 pound all paid for and very not-handsome midriff section. The other is head room. With a new upholstered bench seat my head is touching the ceiling. I have to dip my head slightly - so I went to 65-66 Mustang bucket seats and that helped some but the distance from the belly to the wheel didn't change all that much if any.
Tilt column time!! I installed an ididit last summer. I'm well over the 300 mark and no more rub. Now just need to lose weight myself.
I plan on shortening up my column drop as well. It's too close to me, and I haven't even repaired the seat yet. I haven't planned it out exactly yet, but I should be doing it in the next couple weekends. I'll post it here. However, I am doing a steering box swap, so I'm not sure my solution will help you out exactly, because a U joint does get added.
