Noticed today that a 2017 at work idles down when you touch the brake when it is in high idle when cold. My 2019 does not. You end up moving the select into gear while still in high idle. Anyone else can comment if their truck idles down as soon as you press on The brake? I asked ford and was told the truck doesn’t have cold high idle so will go to different dealer depending on response here. Thanks.
Mine does not. On cold mornings the idle can be up or a little over 1000RPM. I let it run a few minutes, then shift into gear (whether the idle has dropped or not) and drive.
My 2021 started doing this too after taking it in for warranty work on a bad TPMS. They probably flashed the ECM. I don't mind the new behavior. Getting a higher idle will help warm it up while also keeping the EGR inactive.
I have a 2019 F350 diesel, and it never used to go into high idle (~1000rpm) when cold. BTW, I'm in Phoenix, so it's not really that cold. A few days ago, it went to the dealer for a warranty issue, and the updated the software (i saw it on the paperwork afterwords). Now, it enters high idle when in neutral after about 30-60 seconds. As soon as I tap the brakes, it goes back to normal idle. It does this even after driving about 3 miles. BTW, it's about 45F this morning. Does Ford consider that cold? So far, it's annoying because it does it while waiting in a drive-through and it makes the truck quite loud (stock exhaust).
My 2018 does the 1000RPM cold start idle now after a PCM reflash for an emission related CEL. Also I hear the EGR working along with other noises that I never heard before when truck's at idle. Stepping on gas or brake does get engine to idle down to 5-600rpm but left alone for 20-30 seconds and it idles back up to 1k again.
I stopped by the dealer today and they said the change in cold idle behavior was due to an emissions issue. The service writer made it sound like the changed was mandated by the government.
