Mileage at 44k+

Did a 14 hour drive yesterday from west of Phoenix, AZ to Woodward, OK.
Last fill up was 43,773 pulled out early morning yesterday with 43,880 miles. Did do some errands around town and towed the toy during this period of time before leaving.
Next fill up 44,129...356 miles ÷ 27.89 gal= 12.76 mpg ( some towing, climb in elevation from Phoenix to Flagstaff. Filled up in Winslow, AZ)
Next fill up 44,558... 429 miles ÷ 27.60 gal= 15.54 mpg, cruising at 80 most of the time. Filled up in Tucumcari, NM
Next fill up 44,840... after arriving at destination, 282 miles ÷ 17.71 gal= 15.92 mpg cruising at 70-75 mph most the time. Filled up in Woodward, OK

Overall not to shabby for 430 hp V8 brick going down the road. With 44,893 miles on the truck now with no regrets at all going with 7.3, other than the crank seal leak early on and repaired under warranty the truck has been fantastic on road and off.

The Goodyear Wranglers are starting to show some wear and will have to think about replacements before summer.

I'll revisit this thread in a year when nearing 100k on the truck.

It's amazing you could drive 80 mph on i-40 without requiring back surgery.

There are definitely some ruff areas but usually the putt putt lane. I hate heading west out of Kingman towards Needles what a horrible horrible stretch of highway.

It appears the 3.73 is the sweet spot for what you are doing with your truck. That first leg was really good considering the big elevation change is a short amount of time and air density changes. The others are also really good with the speeds and hills you encounter at times.

Im impressed by the wear on the Goodyears. I burned through two sets of those 275/70R18 Goodyears in roughly 28-32k miles per set. Rotated every 3k and kept fronts at 65psi and rears at 60psi unloaded and 80psi loaded. I do gross between 20-23k lbs daily though.

Off topic but the bridge deck transitions are the WORST on I-40. They're a launching pad.

Thursday I made the return trip except for taking the route more southwest towards Amarillo because of the storm happening, didn't want to be off the beaten trail to far with snow (white outs, wind gusting 40+) and icy roads. The first three hours leaving Woodward, OK towards Amarillo was very windy, then getting on to I40 the head wind was strong most of the way to Albuquerque, NM lessening heading west but not by much. On a side note it's amazing the how much movement is in the hood on a full frontal blast of wind.

Filled up in Woodward, OK before leaving 45,604 miles
Next fill up 45,944...340 miles ÷ 24.03 gal= 14.14 mpg ( Strong winds, white outs. Filled up in Santa Rosa, NM)
Next fill up 46,318... 374 miles ÷ 24.93 gal= 15.00 mpg, cruising at 80 most of the time. Filled up in Winslow, AZ.
Next fill up 46,588... near destination, 240 miles ÷ 16.25 gal= 14.76 mpg cruising at 70-75 mph most the time. Filled up in Phoenix, AZ.

Compared to the trip out not bad at all with the weather being pretty miserable and the strong head wind.
For reference the truck is stock weighing 8,500#. I'll always use 86-87 octane when fueling. Tires aired at front 65, rear 70.
