I just read all the threads brought up in search about door rattles, but none seemed to have a similar issue
my driver's door occasionally has a "tinny" type rattle. occurs over bumps, but not always. not sure if temp affects it, can't really determine. it sounds like a wire or clip or something tapping.
the sound is coming from around the triangle trim piece that covers the mounting bolts for the mirror. i can push on the triangle piece and make it stop. it does it with the triangle removed.
i have take the door panel off a couple times. everything seems secured, no loose wires. i tightened every bolt i could see.
i have greased the hinges and the rod that goes into the door.
my truck has the larger GM strikers.
i am at a loss.
Whats strange is that you say it stops when you press on that triangle cover, but still makes the noise when removed. I think I read a thread talking about noise coming from that area, maybe even a tsb that involved some foam...that wouldn't be your problem since it happens without the cover.
Rattles, some intermittent, some more regular are one of my top erks I have with this Super Duty. When I decided to go new I was looking forward to a rattle free rig. I haven't traced any of the rattles in my truck yet.
Came upon this issue with my SD. Searched numerous threads and found out it happened quite frequently. Some added weather stripping, another added 1/4” backer foam in top left corner of the door behind the weather stripping and some added/wrapped fabric tap/electrical tape to the rod the door itself latches onto. Also some moved the rod bracket in slightly which also helped close the door tighter. I added some fabric tap to the rod and so far so good. Eventually the tape will wear away, but can always replace with a new lining of it.
My passenger side has done if from day 1. In my mind, I ripped my whole door off and left it on the side of the road. I ended up caulking the bottom of the triangle to where it sits on the door. I used black caulking and painters tape for a smooth line and you can't even notice it. It's worked for 13k miles.
If your doors top left corner is rattling, loosen your top bolt on hinge, door side and pull the door back about an 8th of an inch and tighten. Fixes rattle and wind noise.
I have the exact same little rattle from the same place that has driven me nuts trying to figure out. So far I have just stuffed a little folded shop towel in the gap between the dash and door to stop it until I can find time to "fix" it.
tackled it again yesterday. was going to remove the mirror and see if there was a wire or something behind the metal tapping. I removed the 4 screws holding the mirror, but it would not come off. Instead of breaking something, I gave up. I did notice looking in the holes of the metal (where the triangle piece clips go) there are metal retaining tabs on far side. I think those hold the mirror on; maybe those are the source?🤷🏻♂️
been paying more attention to it. sounds like it may be coming from the hinge. adjusted the door slightly. seemed better, but came back.
seems like it may be temp related. last night it was bad until the cab warmed up, then it was very quiet/gone 🤷🏻♂️

Your rattle is sounding more and more like mine. It happens on cold mornings and disappears when the truck warms up. I always thought it was the hinge until I discovered that by applying pressure to the end of the dash between the door and the dash I could stop it. Something in the heat duct must be loose until the heat expands it. I haven't had the nerve to try and access the area but I'm sure if I did some foam strips applied in the right spot would stop it.
