So yesterday on the way to work I noticed my driver's side door has an annoying rattle. I checked freeplay with the door closed in relation to the passenger door, and there is about 1/2-3/4 inch of play towards the cab. The door closes and opens fine, except for this closed rattle. From the inside, I can also push out on the door enough to see between the door and weatherstripping. The door mounting screws are tight and the door appears to be properly aligned. Any ideas?
Is the door seal in good condition? Sounds like a lot of play for a seal in good condition. You could try loosening the door keeper on the door pillar by rotating it anti-clockwise until loose and moving it towards the interior as far as it will go, then tighten. This should take out at least some play. Also check the door hinges by lifting the door at the handle edge, if loose replace hinge pins or hinges.
i got a annoying rattle out of no-where on my truck. It sounds like metal on metal clinking. I discovered that it's my aftermarket window vent, the adhesive seal let go, and it flaps and slaps the door. It creates a sound of which you woudn't think it would cause .
my driver door also rattles, i've had the door aligned maybe 4 times in the trucks life, because the door was having issues closing easily. recently it got this bad rattle, i noticed that the mirror assembly seems easier to move, the exterior part of the door actually flexes when i push on the mirror. i'm wondering if something came apart inside of the door. this is just personal observation. i'd be interested to know if you notice the same thing.
skyfox, you have a loose bolt that hold the mirror on the inside part of the door. remove plastic panel and you will see it. this is for the small mirrors.
